In 2010, Inge Wegge and Jørn Ranum spent 9 months above the Arctic Circle in the Lofoten Islands surfing, snowboarding, and subsisting in a cabin they built of driftwood, stone, and sea debris.

Sorrisniva Igloo Hotel - Alta, Norway - A Unique Ice Hotel

The Igloo Hotel is situated in Sorrisniva, 20 kilometres from Alta town centre - in idyllic surroundings on the banks of the Alta River. The Igloo measures approx 2000 square metres and the entire exterior and interior is made of snow and ice; the rooms, the beds, even the glasses in the ice bar. The Igloo Hotel is the only one of its kind and is built for the 13th time in 2012.


Uvershula in Nordland, Norway sits on idyllic seashore location with fine views of the nearby Lofoten Islands.  Built by a local school teacher, it has a wood burning stove, coffee pot, and a hut log book with comments from travellers from all over the world.
